Manilow Archives: Houston Rodeo '88!
Have you had a chance to check out the video Barry personally selected to post in the MANILOW ARCHIVES for the month of May? It’s his first performance at the Houston Rodeo in 1988. Check out the full performance and a preview at www.ManilowArchives.com. Here is what Barry has to say about this video from his personal vault: Hi Everyone! Now here’s an oldie, but a goodie (just like me!). It’s our very first performance at the Houston Rodeo in 1988. Being invited to play at the Houston Rodeo is very prestigious. So I was honored when I got the call. Most of the time they have country acts at the Rodeo, so being driven out to the stage in pickup truck was nerve wracking. I was convinced that the audience wouldn’t connect with this Brooklyn guy singing pop songs. But I was very wrong, thank goodness! The crowd was huge. As far and as wide and high as you could see. The only problem is that we on the stage couldn’t hear them at all! It was surreal. We could see them waving and moving their mouths shouting, but we couldn’t hear them at all. You’ll see, even on the video, you just can’t hear the enormous crowd. But near the end of our set, the audience got so crazy and so loud, that we could hear them – a little. It’s a walk down Memory Lane for all of us.
Enjoy,
