Barry's ONE VOICE Being Used to Unite Australian Fire Victims
Teen pop star to reach out TEEN pop singer Annabelle Priftis will be one of the youngest performers singing at the day of mourning memorial service at Rod Laver Arena today. Priftis jumped at the chance to perform after receiving a call from the Premier's office last week, and is thrilled to be performing Barry Manilow's song One Voice with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Korowa Anglican Girls' School choir. "I hope that the song will reach out to those people affected and show them that we are united and that we care," Priftis, 15, told The Sunday Age yesterday. Her family, who live in Ashburton, had been touched by the tragedy and had donated to the appeals, she said. Priftis started performing in front of shopping centre crowds at the age of nine. She was a Teen Idol grand finalist in 2006, but her biggest performance came at Carols By Candlelight in 2007. She is nervous but excited about performing in front of Princess Anne, the Premier and the Prime Minister. - PATRICK DONOVAN
