Barry to Receive Humanitarian Award

MANILOW TO RECEIVE 2009 STEVE CHASE AWARD

Palm Springs, CA - The Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards have announced the first two honorees for their 15th annual event celebrating the 25th anniversary of its beneficiary, the Desert AIDS Project. The event will be held at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Saturday, February 21, 2009.

Barry Manilow will receive the Silver Anniversary Community Service Award, in recognition of his contributions to the Coachella Valley and beyond. His Manilow Fund for Health and Hope continues to be a major sponsor of AIDS Walks in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It also has funded programs to raise money for school musical instruments, homeless youth and those afflicted with disease. In addition, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will receive the Silver Anniversary Science and Medicine Award.

Recipients of two other silver anniversary awards are yet to be announced.

These honorees are being recognized for their continued time, energy and commitment to the HIV/AIDS fight.
