The Society of Singers has announced that it will be honoring Barry in Spring 2003 as the recipient of the 12th Ella Award. The Ella Award, named in honor of its first recipient, Ella Fitzgerald, is given to singers whose contribution to the music world is equaled by a singer's humanitarian causes and community support. Past recipients include Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Tony Martin, and Placido Domingo.
