Song for the Day - March 13, 2026: Barry Manilow's version of "SOLITAIRE" from the UK Edition of THE GREATEST SONGS OF THE SEVENTIES!

"Solitaire" was written by Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody, and was a Top 20 hit for the Carpenters on Billboard's Hot 100 in 1975. After a successful recording career in the late '50s/early '60s including the classics "Oh, Carol," "Calendar Girl," "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" and "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do," Neil made a comeback in the '70s with Billboard Hot 100 charttoppers "Laughter In The Rain" and "Bad Blood, and the Top Ten single "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do (ballad version)." In addition to "Solitaire," Neil wrote several compositions recorded by other artists including the 1975 #1 hit for The Captain & Tennille, "Love Will Keep Us Together" with lyricist Howard Greenfield. Sedaka's Back! We recently lost Neil on February 27th, but celebrate his life and musical legacy here today. Neil Sedaka (1939 - 2026) was born on March 13th.
