After a successful recording career in the late '50s/early '60s including the classics "Oh, Carol," "Calendar Girl," "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" and "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do," Neil made a comeback in the '70s with Billboard Hot 100 charttoppers "Laughter In The Rain" and "Bad Blood, and the Top Ten single "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do (ballad version)." In addition to "Solitaire," Neil wrote several compositions recorded by other artists including the 1975 #1 hit for The Captain & Tennille, "Love Will Keep Us Together" with lyricist Howard Greenfield.
