Subject: 15 Years Ago Today (October 17, 2006): The Tonight Show with Jay Leno!

This Day in MANILOW History - October 17th: Barry Manilow performed "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" during his promotional appearance for The Greatest Songs of the Sixties on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, FIFTEEN Years Ago TODAY (October 17, 2006)!

During his interview with Jay, Barry had this to say on recently winning the Emmy Award for the PBS Special Manilow: Music and Passion: "I was [genuinely surprised] ... All these guys [like Jay] who do a different show every night and kill themselves. Not that [our show] isn't great, but it was a weird category. I was the only singer there, the only music show, so I thought one of these guys would definitely get it. I was thrilled. I never thought I would get it ... I was with Dick [Clark], who was very moved, and they announced my name and my manager had to say, 'Get out there!'" ... "I had [a] dummy [acceptance] speech ... but they give you like 30 seconds, and I knew if some miracle happened and that I actually won, I had to have these names that I wanted to say, in my pocket. I only had eight names, and I got to #6 and they played the music. I don't know how people do this. They started playing the music on the 6th name and I started to rush!"
