Subject: NIGHT SONGS II - Barry Manilow: She Was Too Good To Me

One of my favorite songs on Night Songs II is “She Was Too Good To Me.”

Written in 1930 by the great Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart for their musical “Simple Simon,” the song, like all of the standards on the album, still holds up.

The song was dropped before the show opened! And yet, the song is so great that it survived.

It’s become a jazz standard and has been recorded by every great singer/musician from Chet Baker to Carmen McCrae.

When I was playing piano for young, up and coming singers in New York, one of the girls brought the song in for me to arrange for her. I fell in love with the song back then and I still love it today.
