BEAULAVILLE, Duplin County — An Eastern Carolina high school not only got a shout-out from a musical superstar, but a large check to fund its marching band. The Manilow Music Project has distributed more than $10 million in instruments and funds nationwide, and this year East Duplin High School won $100,000 for new instruments and band uniforms from the project. Schools from across the nation apply for the funding by submitting videos to explain why it’s needed, and that video sent in by East Duplin explains that the band’s uniforms are 24 years old, they are unable to fund instrument upgrades and many local families are still recovering from Hurricane Florence last fall. Manilow named the winners in a music video of his own and in it thanked the band, “For your passion, your heart, and your talent.”
