WITN, 20 June 2019 An Eastern Carolina high school has won a huge prize to fund its marching band. East Duplin High School won $100,000 for new instruments and band uniforms from Barry Manilow's The Manilow Music Project. Schools from all over the country sent in videos explaining why they deserve the prize. East Duplin's video says the group's uniforms are 24 years old and they lack the money to upgrade their instruments. On top of that, the area was hit by Hurricane Florence last fall and many families are still recovering. While naming the winners in his own music video, Manilow thanked the school for their passion, heart and talent for music.
