Daily Journal, 17 June 2019 (1) It’s his birthday: Famed singer and songwriter Barry Manilow was born Barry Alan Pincus on June 17, 1943, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He turns 76 today. (2) He appeared in Kankakee: In November of 1967, an up-and-coming, 24-year-old Manilow spent a week singing and performing on the piano of the Waterloo Lodge of the former Little Corporal restaurant in Kankakee. (3) A prolific hit maker: Forty-six of Manilow’s songs have reached the Billboard Adult Contemporary top 40 charts, including 13 that reached No. 1 and 28 that cracked the top 10. (4) On tour now: Manilow is currently on tour. All 2019 dates will be performed in either Hollywood, Las Vegas or New York. (5) A McDonald’s pitchman: Before Manilow realized stardom, his voice could be heard singing “You Deserve A Break Today” on early 1970s ads for McDonald’s.
