"Could It Be Magic" ("Featherbed" featuring Barry Manilow), Rare 1971 Single Version
Tony Orlando, of "Dawn" fame, produced this version of "Could It Be Magic" for a fictitious studio group called Featherbed. I was the lead singer of this group (that did not exist) and was very disappointed in the arrangement because I had envisioned it completely differently. Now, all these years later, I don't mind it much at all. It's kind of catchy.

"Could It Be Magic" from Barry Manilow I - July 1973
Now THIS is the way I had always heard the song being rendered. I was very proud of it when it was completed, but was stunned when it found its way onto the pop charts and the radio. Hearing a Chopin prelude on pop radio was strange, but I was elated.

    "Mandy", Unreleased Original First Take
Scott English and Richard Kerr originally titled this song "Brandy" and the record they did was much more up-tempo. We decided to slow it down and change its name to "Mandy". On this first take I slip and sing "Brandy." Oops.

"Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again", Unreleased Alternate Take - 1975
David Pomeranz's beautiful song originally included an exquisite bridge that we regrettably had to remove from the record due to time restraints. It's back in this rendition and I'm so glad to be able to show it to you.

"This One's For You", Unreleased Demo - 1976
Marty Panzer's lyric has always knocked me out, but he's such a perfectionist that he changes words up until the last take. Before recording the record version, I made a piano/vocal demo of the song. These are his original lyrics.

"Can't Smile Without You", Unreleased Alternate First Take - 1977
The original first take of this song was complete with a tap dance solo! It still makes me smile.

"Copacabana (At The Copa)" - Remixed by David Ford for PWL - 1993 (Originally released on "Even Now" - January 13, 1978)
When we finished recording this song, we were certain that we'd created something very original (or very bizarre!). We took a rough mix to a nearby disco to try it out and as soon as it came on, the dance floor became jammed with couples pretending to tango and samba, dipping and whirling around the floor! It was hilarious and we knew then we were onto something. Here's a new 1993 remix that just might start toes tapping all over the UK!

"The Old Songs", Unreleased Alternate Take - 1981
Originally, we had a longer ending on David and Buddy's wonderful song. For time purposes, we had to shorten the ending, but we found the original and have included it here.

"Somewhere Down The Road", Unreleased Demo - 1981
I love this song. I even love this demo. The final record included a big orchestra and voices, but this intimate rendition has always seemed more honest.

"One Voice" from "Barry Live In Britain" - April, 1982
One morning, I awoke with an entire song running through my head. It was completely written. I stumbled to the piano, pressed the "record" button on my cassette machine and croaked "One Voice" into it. Then I went back to bed. When I played the cassette back later on, it was all there, complete. I don't know how this happened.

"Brooklyn Blues" from "Swing Street" - November 12, 1987
One of my favorite songs and productions. The song is very personal and I think it's one of Bruce (Sussman) and Jack (Feldman)'s best lyrics. Eddie Arkin's spectacular arrangement puts this one over the top for me.

"Give My Regards To Broadway", Unreleased Live Performance - 1992
What a song! Written in the year before they discovered water, it still holds up. It was a thrill to be able to sing this song and all the other magnificent Broadway show tunes during the "Showstoppers" tour in 1992.

"If Tomorrow Never Comes", New Recording - 1992
Garth Brooks, talented Country artist, has written the most poignant song I've heard in a long time. Listen to the lyrics and then go tell someone you care about that you do.

"Another Life", New Recording - 1992
I'm crazy about the power of this song. One of my favorite new productions.

"The Best Of Me", New Recording - 1992
I heard this song on a demo tape that Richard Marx made back in 1984. It moved me to tears the first time I heard it. It still does.
