June 19, 2020 Broadway WorldBilly Stritch Celebrates Barry Manilow's Birthday on BILLY'S PLACE With Special 'Appearance' by Manilow Himself
Billy Stritch presents "Billy's Place" every Thursday at 8 PM on Facebook Live, and last night's episode was particularly special! Stritch celebrated the great Barry Manilow's birthday, and welcomed a very special guest over the phone - Manilow himself! Stritch shared how much the episode meant to him in a Facebook post: "Well, what can I say about last night's episode of "Billy's Place"? Not only was it very special to sing the music of Barry Manilow but to actually have Barry call and chat with me during the show was a thrill I'll not soon forget! I'm still pinching myself this morning and had to go back and watch it to make sure it really happened. It did!"

June 12, 2020 Billboard.com"Barry Manilow Is As Surprised As You Are By His Pandemic Hit, 'When The Good Times Come Again': The song extends the superstar's chart span on the Adult Contemporary chart to six decades" by Melinda Newman
For Barry Manilow’s self-titled 1989 album, he recorded a wistful ballad, “When the Good Times Come Again,” that was never released as a single. Now, 31 years later, it has become an unlikely hit and a balm as people deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and not being able to see their loved ones for extended periods of time.

This week, the song rose to No. 18 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, making Manilow the first artist to span reaching the top 20 of the chart from the '70s to the ‘20s. It is his 36th top 20 hit on the chart.

The song's resurrection started after an Israeli fan made a lyric video for the tune as the coronavirus spread. It came to Manilow’s attention and, in late April, he posted it on his Facebook page. His management company, Stiletto Entertainment, sent the song to adult contemporary radio and then RCA/Sony picked up the radio promotion for the release.

The superstar celebrated another milestone earlier this year when Night Songs II debuted at No. 32 on the Billboard 200, marking his sixth consecutive decade of top 40-charting albums beginning with Barry Manilow II in 1975.

From his house in Palm Springs, Manilow spoke to Billboard about his delight in finding himself in the AC top 20 for the first time since 2012, his surprise at missing performing, his concern about the spike in coronavirus cases and when the good times will come again.

Billboard (BB): How are you doing?
Barry Manilow (BM): I get very nervous about people who are running outside and the protest marches. These helicopter shots of thousands of people marching. And I kept saying, “Wait a minute. What happened to the mask and staying six feet away from each other?" What’s going to happen with all these people in every city? In every state? Are they all going to get sick? I think we’re stuck with this. The numbers are beginning to go up all over the place. And me, with my career, I don't know when it'll ever be safe to go to a Broadway show or one of my things in Vegas. When will we all feel comfortable sitting next to somebody?

BB: That’s what’s so remarkable about “When the Good Times Come Again.” Even though it wasn’t written for these times, it somehow fits into the anxious situation we find ourselves in and wondering when we can celebrate good times again together. What does it mean to you that so many people are finding comfort through the song?
BM: The comfort part makes me feel real good. That's what I've always wanted to do. That's what I try to do anytime I'm making a record or anytime I’m performing, my focus is always on [the audience]. My arrows always point out, never back to me. So when you say that it's giving comfort to people, that's exactly what my goal is as an entertainer, as a songwriter, as a performer — to affect people, whether it's to make them laugh or to make them feel good. I just feel very lucky. It's a 30-year old record. I never thought, ever, I would end up on the top 20 ever again but I couldn't be happier about it.

BB: The song, brought to you by Clive Davis and written by Will Jennings and Richard Kerr, has the line “Hope we both survive the world out there.” Do you remember why the song appealed to you originally?
BM: It's a very moving idea. I used to end every concert with that song: “I’ll see you then when the good times come again.” I did it on a tour that lasted around two years and I ended every show with it. That's what got me when Clive presented it to me and it moved me as a song and then it moved the audience every night.

BB: You’d already had some success recording songs written by Will and Richard, like “Looks Like We Made It” and “Somewhere in the Night,” so you must have known their songs were a good match for you.
BM: Yeah, and they're great guys, too. Richard is a beautiful pop composer. I called Richard when this began to happen and said, "Do you have any kind of story you can tell me about how you wrote this?" He said, "All I can remember is that there was a close friend of Will’s and [mine] and he passed away and we were really grieving and that's when we wrote that lyric.” Over the years I have been very proud to introduce songs by talented songwriters like Richard and Will. I think that's my job. I'm very happy to write “Copacabana” and “This One's for You,” but I’m very, very happy to be able to introduce great songs and great songwriters to the public. And this one is very gratifying.

BB: Your history on the Adult Contemporary chart starts with “Mandy,” which hit No. 1 in 1974. Richard Kerr co-wrote the song, so this really brings it all full circle.
BM: My life changed overnight with “Mandy.” Clive found my first album on his desk when he took over Bell Records and changed it to Arista Records. He came down to see me perform and he kept me on his label. I was in the middle of making my second album. He said, “I like it, but you need a hit record.” I had no experience with hit records at all. I said, “No problem. I'll go home right now and write one.” It’s impossible [laughs]. A couple of days later he sent me a demo of a song called “Brandy,” which had been a minor hit in England for the co-writer Scott English. It was rock 'n' roll. I said “Really? You want me to do that?” So I did it just like the record. Clive came into the studio and said, “That's terrible.” I said, “I know it's terrible. That’s not what I do. But during the afternoon, when I was sitting at the piano, I changed the chords around. I found the love song in this rock 'n' roll song and slowed it down. I played him my version of “Brandy” and he said, “Do that! Just do that." We changed the name to "Mandy." And that's the record. There were two takes of me playing the piano and singing it and the first take wasn’t good because I sang Brandy instead of Mandy. [For the second take], we added drums, guitar and strings.

BB: You span six decades on this chart with a top 20 hit in every decade but the ‘90s, when the highest you reached was No. 26.
BM: Damn it. Why don’t you just lie? [laughs]

BB: What does that mean to you?
BM: It's amazing. I never started out wanting to do this, so it's even more amazing because I was going to be an arranger. I was going to be a conductor. I was going to be a songwriter. I never thought about singing or performing or making records. So this kind of career continues to be the most amazing thing that I could ever imagine.

BB: Speaking of performing, you were supposed to be playing your Las Vegas residency during this time and had to postpone the shows. You’ve said that performing is not your favorite thing, but now that you can't do it, is there any part of it that you miss?
BM: All of it. I've been kvetching for years about leaving home and going on the road, but, boy, you never miss the water 'til the well runs dry. Not only do I miss the audiences, I miss my band, I miss the crew. I miss the excitement of that life that I had. Now, and again, I ask Garry [Kief, Manilow’s longtime manager and husband] just to applaud so can I hear that sound again [laughs] … I never thought I'd miss it as deeply as I do. That was the big surprise for me.

BB: You have a home studio. Are you putting it to good use while we're shut down?
BM: When the axe fell, I was in the middle of making an original album, so I can still do that. I'm working on it with Michael Lloyd [who produced “When the Good Times Come Again”]. And Clive gave me another one of his crazy ideas that could very well be another hit idea. So I'm working on two concepts with two albums and that definitely keeps me busy.

BB: Is there anything else about "When The Good Times Come Again" you want to talk about?
BM: Who knows where this is going to wind up? If it stopped right now, it’s been an unbelievable ride for me these last couple of months while we're all going through this nightmare. I'm so glad a song like this can actually make people feel better. I couldn't be more grateful.

In a statement, Manilow said he was looking forward to coming back to his Vegas residency. “I am incredibly excited about the newly added performances in 2021.” Not surprisingly, the hotel says the schedule shuffle was for COVID-19 health safety concerns and “an abundance of concern for our guests, team members and performers.”

April 23, 2020 Billboard"Clive Davis' Quarantine Playlist is a Collection of 'Future Standards' From the 21st Century: The music legend's selections are informed by a new collaboration with his Palm Springs neighbor Barry Manilow" by Chris Eggertsen
Like most of the rest of us mere mortals, legendary music executive and producer Clive Davis has been quarantining at home during the coronavirus pandemic. Also like many of us, he’s been using this time of social distancing to listen to lots and lots of music.

Over six decades in the business, Davis shepherded the careers of some of the most legendary performers of the 20th century, from Whitney Houston to Aretha Franklin to Janis Joplin to Bruce Springsteen. But while most his age tend to lean on the old classics, Davis makes a concerted effort to keep up with the biggest hitmakers of today. Indeed, his quarantine playlist is a who’s-who of contemporary pop artists who have churned out some of the most inescapable songs of the past 20 years.

Davis' playlist isn't just a random collection of hits, however. Rather, they’re connected to a new project by Davis’ longtime friend and collaborator Barry Manilow, whom he signed to Arista Records in the mid-1970s. The two men, who have been speaking daily by phone since they entered quarantine in two neighboring Palm Springs homes, have been jointly compiling a playlist for a prospective Manilow album that would see the iconic singer recording covers of the most impactful and lasting songs of the 21st century.

“That, in effect, is the criteria,” Davis tells Billboard of choosing songs that would work for the album's concept. “Which of these 21st century greatest hits could be standards for the future?”

Davis’ playlist, which can be found below, represents a selection of his favorites that have sprung from his friendly collaboration with Manilow -- i.e. the ones he’s been listening to the most while in quarantine. All of them, he says, have the qualities that make a standard, much like Manilow’s much-beloved No. 1 hit “Mandy," the first hit song the two worked on together...

Davis’ full quarantine playlist track list:

  • Ed Sheeran, “Perfect”
  • Bruno Mars, “Just the Way You Are”
  • Justin Timberlake, “Can’t Stop The Feeling”
  • Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, “Shallow”
  • Harry Styles, “Sign Of The Times”
  • Jason Mraz, “I’m Yours”
  • Sam Smith and Normani, “Dancing With a Stranger”
  • Lady Antebellum, “Need You Now”
  • Kelly Clarkson, “Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)”
  • Adele, “Hello”
  • Alicia Keys, "No One”
  • Rihanna, “Don’t Stop the Music”
April 6, 2020 The Northern Echo"Barry Manilow's Newcastle concert date switched to September 3" by Bruce Unwin

The veteran New York crooner was to perform at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, on Saturday May 30, as part of a seven-date UK 2020 tour. The entire arena tour has now been rearranged with new concert dates fixed for the same venues in late August and early September. Manilow Magic is now promised for Newcastle on the sixth night of the tour, on Thursday September 3. Barry Manilow: Even The Legends Are Bowing To The Coronavirus
Hollywood and the entire entertainment industry has been hit hard by the effects of the coronavirus. While some big names, like Tom Hanks and Jackson Browne, have tested positive, no one in the industry has escaped the impact of the virus.

That includes the legendary Barry Manilow, who was supposed to begin an extended engagement on March 26 in Las Vegas. Manilow says that has been put on hold for now. He had 50 dates planned. He said, "They have canceled everything in Las Vegas. The only thing we have to fight this thing is to stop and stay home." He hopes to get a new schedule eventually.

In the meantime, Manilow is promoting his newest creation, "Night Songs II." He calls it, and its predecessor, "Night Songs," personal albums for him. He said, "Now and again, I would sit at the piano, and I would play and sing some of the songs that I always loved."

Manilow made a CD for a couple of his friends, and they encouraged him to release it. He did, and people connected with it. "Night Songs" received a Grammy nomination! He says neither were really meant to be albums, "just meant to be a personal batch of songs that I have always liked." "Night Songs II" mostly features Manilow at a piano singing songs written by artists whom Manilow calls, "some of the masters of writing."

Manilow's career began in the 1960s, but he says he never intended to be an entertainer. He wanted to be an arranger and composer. That led to writing commercials and jingles, like the McDonald's slogan "You deserve a break today" and the State Farm campaign "Just like a good neighbor, State Farm is there."

Eventually, Manilow found the stage. Bette Midler caught Manilow's act in 1971 and chose him to be her pianist and music conductor.

Manilow's first visit to Maryland to perform was in 1975, at the Annapolis National Guard Armory. He has also performed at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore in 2013. But his fondest memory of Maryland happened at Merriweather Post Pavilion, where Midler allowed him to sing three of his own songs in between act 1 and act 2. He remembers standing in the wings terrified to go out in front of "all those people" to sing. He says the audience was so kind to him and he will never forget that moment.

February 15, 2020 Las Vegas Review-Journal"Barry Manilow’s Valentine’s Day present: 900 CDs" by John Katsilometes
There’s more than one way to give away a bunch of CDs in a Las Vegas residency show. On Valentine’s Day, Barry Manilow went for the bulk method, delivering 900 CDs, all at once. Fans who attended Manilow’s return to International Theater at Westgate Las Vegas were given copies of “Night Songs II,” Manilow’s follow-up to “Night Songs” and his first album release in more than three years. The groundswell of love among Barry Manilow’s “Fanilows” stretched to the entrance of the theater’s gift shop. It was a one-night-only event.

This strategy differs from that of, say, Donny Osmond, who handed out a single CD during every Donny & Marie performance at Flamingo Las Vegas. That nightly tradition covered a span of 1,700 shows over 11 years.

Manilow is back at International Theater on Thursday, Friday and next Saturday. He continues his Thursdays-through-Saturdays schedule through November. There is already talk around the property that he will be back for more in 2021. The deal is informal: As General Manager Cami Christensen says, “Barry is part of our family, and the Westgate is his home.”

February 14, 2020 Las Vegas Magazine"Barry Manilow thrills fans at Westgate Las Vegas" by Sam Novak
Last year, Westgate Las Vegas celebrated 50 amazing years of history as the city’s first true megaresort. During the same period, headliner Barry Manilow delivered his 500th performance inside its famed International Theater. It was a landmark moment in his illustrious career ... the kind of achievement that solidifies Manilow’s inclusion in Las Vegas Magazine’s 2020 Hall of Fame.

As a Hall of Fame honoree, we recognize Manilow’s enduring impact, along with the myriad of ways that the singer/songwriter/producer has permanently influenced the Las Vegas entertainment landscape. One of his Vegas contributions goes back to 1988, when the Brooklyn-born artist first performed on the International Theater stage.

Now the singer has returned with another great season of Manilow: The Hits Come Home! A spectacular hit parade, it opened in the summer of 2018 to universal acclaim. Westgate recently announced an extension of The Hits Come Home! through 2020, ensuring that fans from around the world would have the opportunity to experience one of the world’s greatest showmen in Las Vegas where he belongs.

You might think that, at 76 years old, the man who “writes the songs the whole world sing” would want to take it easy ... or at least to play it safe. But Manilow is not that kind of entertainer. In between appearances at Westgate, he’s played dates in Hollywood and New York City while simultaneously prepping his long-gestating original musical Harmony for an New York run.

2017 saw the release of This Is My Town: Songs of New York, the artist’s 31st studio album. A love letter to his hometown, it peaked at No. 12 on Billboard’s Top 200 list. That same year, the music-charting magazine officially honored Manilow’s “hot streak” of 26 top 40 albums, a dozen top 40 singles in the previous 15 years and at least one top 40 album in each of the previous five decades.

With such an extensive discography, it’s easy to pack The Hits Come Home! with a massive selection of beloved tunes, such as “Can’t Smile Without You.” Manilow delivers them with over-the-top energy, backed by a stunning live band and a team of dazzling dancers. The superstar never seems to leave the stage, sitting still only when he’s mesmerizing the crowd from behind the piano.

International Theater’s grand stage utilizes dynamic backdrops and sets befitting a songbook of this scope. Even with so much space at his disposal, Manilow can’t be contained. A complex circular structure lowers from the ceiling and extends across the auditorium, enabling the entertainer to literally bring the show into the audience and up to the balcony.

The man whose mind gave birth to many advertising jingles (from Band-Aid bandages to State Farm Insurance) never takes himself too seriously. Self-deprecating humor pokes fun at hair and clothing from previous eras, especially when crossing into “Copacabana” territory. Audience members are presented with 3D glasses and glowsticks to join in the frivolity for a pair of riotous sequences.

With countless awards and a legacy that’s hard to match, Barry Manilow could simply sit at a microphone and deliver a satisfying show ... but that’s not his style. Manilow: The Hits Come Home! is the star’s biggest production yet, a true blue spectacle and everything that a Manilow fan could wish for.

Westgate Las Vegas, 7 p.m. Feb. 20-22, starting at $49.79 plus tax and fee. 800.745.3000 Ticketmaster.

January 10, 2020 Las Vegas MagazineLas Vegas Magazine Hall of Fame 2020: Barry Manilow
Las Vegas has long been a city that does things differently. Where else are you going to find gaming in grocery stores? Or movie theaters and bowling alleys within the confines of a large resort? And in what other city can you get anything you want whenever you want, 24 hours a day?

It’s in that spirit that Las Vegas Magazine decided to launch its inaugural Hall of Fame -- the normal rules do not apply. Unlike the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (where you’re only eligible 25 years after the release of your first record) or the National Football League Hall of Fame (where you must be retired for at least five seasons to be eligible) Las Vegas Magazine’s honorees are eligible once they set down roots in town -- it could be three years, it could be 50. If they made a significant impact on the history and culture of this town, they’re up for consideration. There’s only one other key criteria -- our readers have to be able to enjoy them here and now.

That said, any discussion of a Hall of Fame would not be complete without a nod to the legends that came before and paved the way for the current crop of honorees. There are far too many to mention here, but the Rat Pack, Liberace, Celine Dion, Elvis Presley, Les Folies Bergere, Siegfried & Roy, Elton John, Jerry Lewis and Louis Prima have all cemented their place in that pantheon. One more twist: This class of honorees will have a hand in choosing the 2021 Hall of Fame class. As Las Vegas continues to evolve, we personally can’t wait to see who makes this list next year...

Hall of Fame: Barry Manilow - Barry Manilow, who holds a special place in the hearts of his fans and Vegas visitors, is an important presence here in Las Vegas. His residency continues to evolve -- after all, at times, it’s difficult to pinpoint what works in this town. But Manilow’s superior showmanship acts as a guide to all performers seeking a successful residency in Vegas.

In a recent interview with Las Vegas Magazine’s Brock Radke, Manilow said that within the last six years, he’s noticed a change in his audiences. “I would try to throw in an album cut and they’d be okay with it,” he explained, “but then I’d do ‘Can’t Smile Without You’ and the roof would cave in.” Audiences were telling Manilow exactly what they wanted—the hits. Moreover, they simply want to be in his presence, singing along to the songs that defined their lives.

He offers his fans (or friends, as Manilow prefers to call them) everything he has to give, from the hits, to tender and sentimental stories that contextualize his musical journey, from an uncanny ability to connect with his audiences, to the intimacy he cultivates during his shows, making every audience member feel as though Manilow is singing directly to them. To prospective musical artists seeking a Strip residency: This is what works in Vegas.

Attention, Barry Manilow fans: the soft pop music legend is returning to the stage in 2020! The 76-year-old singer of hits like “Mandy,” “Copacabana” and “Can’t Smile Without You” will be starting a residency in Las Vegas on Feb. 13 and will be there until May 23.

Late last year, it was reported that production on Manilow’s upcoming musical Harmony -- which centers on a real-life band in Weimar Germany -- has been postponed to 2021 due to scheduling conflicts and a recent illness director-choreographer Warren Carlyle sustained. The musical is set to make its debut at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York. Manilow also performed on Broadway in New York last month and received mostly positive reviews.

Tickets for Manilow’s Las Vegas residency start for his Feb. 22 show, so be sure to get yours today before it’s too late! The singer will also be performing in several U.K. cities -- including Birmingham, Leeds and Cardiff -- beginning in May.

In 2014, Barry Manilow released an album of standards called Night Songs that garnered him a Grammy nomination in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category. Now the pop legend has unveiled plans to put out a sequel.

Night Songs II will be released on February 14, 2020, Valentine's Day, but you can pre-order it now exclusively at Manilow's online store, ShopManilow.com. The album is available on CD, as a two-LP set, and as a Collector's Edition box set that also includes Night Songs I.

"Like NIGHT SONGS, this album is filled with great, great songwriting by some of the most talented songwriters ever to put pen to paper," Barry says in a statement. "As the art of writing melodies and emotional lyrics begins to disappear, songs like these mean more to me than they ever have. Once again, the album is very intimate. Just me singing and playing piano as if I was in your living room."

So far, only two tracks have been revealed from Night Songs II: the 1940 standard "Everything Happens to Me" and a tune called "Meditation." If you pre-order the album, you'll also get an instant free download of the latter song.

A couple of other special offers are tied in with Night Songs II's release: One of every 10 copies of the album will be signed by Barry, and everyone ordering a copy will be entered into a contest to win a pair of Platinum Experience packages to Manilow's Las Vegas residency on Valentine's Day that includes two front-row tickets and a pre-show meet and greet.

Barry has more than 50 Las Vegas performances scheduled in 2020 at the Westgate resort's International Theater, starting with a February 13 show.

December 24, 2019 Digital Journal"Barry Manilow puts on the best Broadway concert of 2019" by Markos Papadatos
Veteran singer-songwriter Barry Manilow put on the greatest Broadway concert of 2019 with his limited engagement at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater in Manhattan. His concert garnered five out of five stars from Digital Journal, and rightfully so. Manilow was able to take his audience on a journey through time with his music.

Manilow played hit after hit for his fans. He invited the audience to sing along with him on "Can't Smile Without You," and he paid homage to his Brooklyn roots with "Brooklyn Blues." He also honored his late grandfather with "This One's for You," in a moving performance that left many in tears.

The two highlight songs in his set were his enthralling version of "Memory" and his signature tune "Mandy." He noted that only his version and Barbra Streisand's rendition of "Memory" were the most successful commercially. During "Mandy," Manilow showed a video in the giant televised green of him performing the piano-laden ballad in the '70s, and then he joined in midway through the song which felt like he was dueting with his himself in a different musical era (the '70s), which was a real treat.

For all of these reasons and more, Barry Manilow delivered the greatest Broadway concert in 2019. The audience was well aware that they were in the presence of musical greatness. It is evident that Barry Manilow's music will stand the test of time. Whoever has yet to see this gifted performer live, is truly missing out, and those that are missing out ought to add a ticket to his concert to their bucket list.

At 76 years old, Barry Manilow still possesses more talent and charisma than the vast majority of the contemporary artists that are played on the radio airwaves. His songs are heartfelt, classic and meaningful, and they resonate well with listeners on an emotional level. December 6, 2019 Playbill"Barry Manilow’s Harmony Musical Will Now Open in 2021: The musical had been scheduled to start previews in February 2020" by Andrew Gans
The New York debut of Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman’s musical Harmony has been postponed until 2021. Originally scheduled to begin performances February 11, 2020, at the Museum of Jewish Heritage—A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, Edmond J. Safra Plaza, previews will now start February 9, 2021, with an official opening March 3. The limited engagement will continue through March 27.

The delay follows director and choreographer Warren Carlyle’s recent bout of appendicitis that affected the production schedule, as well as other conflicting commitments. “Barry and Bruce have created an extraordinary show, and I am so thankful that the team has been able to adjust their schedules for the new dates. I wish it could be sooner, but this is a timeless and remarkable story that I promise will be worth the wait,” said Carlyle in a statement.

Harmony will now start previews on February 9, 2021 with Opening Night set for March 3, 2021.

Although the production was scheduled to start rehearsals this month, director, and choreographer Warren Carlyle had a recent bout of appendicitis which has been successfully treated but pushed production later. Unfortunately, the production now has to be scheduled next season because of other conflicting commitments. "Barry and Bruce have created an extraordinary show and I am so thankful that the team has been able to adjust their schedules for the new dates. I wish it could be sooner, but this is a timeless and remarkable story that I promise will be worth the wait," said Warren Carlyle.

The musical tells the true story of the Comedian Harmonists, an ensemble of six talented young men in 1920s Germany who took the world by storm with their signature blend of sophisticated close harmonies and uproarious stage antics, until their inclusion of Jewish singers put them on a collision course with history.

The legendary Manilow and theatre veteran Sussman have collaborated for nearly a half century. Together they have written hundreds of songs for all media-films, television, and stage, including the Grammy Award-winning Copacabana.

Directing and choreographing Harmony will be Tony Award winner and Emmy-nominated Warren Carlyle, who won a 2014 Tony Award for his choreography for After Midnight, for which he also received a direction nomination, and was nominated for a 2019 Tony for choreography for the revival of Kiss Me Kate. A Christmas Story, and Chaplin, and he directed and choreographed Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway and did the same for Hugh Jackman's 2019 World Tour.

Serving as Producer is Ken Davenport, who most recently won a Tony for Best Revival of a Musical for Once on This Island and a Tony for Best Musical for Kinky Boots, and received Tony nominations for Spring Awakening (Revival of a Musical), The Visit (Musical), and You're Welcome America (Special Theatrical Event). Harmony tells the true story of the Comedian Harmonists, an ensemble of six talented young men in 1920s Germany who took the world by storm with their signature blend of sophisticated close harmonies and uproarious stage antics, until their inclusion of Jewish singers put them on a collision course with history.

Harmony was part of NYTF's 2019-2020 season of "Spiritual Resistance," which features artistic and theatrical works that explore themes of struggle against oppression. Currently running is The Sorceress: A Yiddish Musical Fantasy, a fairytale-like story - opening on December 8 and running through December 29th -of a pure-hearted young woman who triumphs over her tormentors, a scheming stepmother, and a wicked witch. NYTF's programming runs concurrent with the exhibition Auschwitz: Not long ago. Not far away. being presented at the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust.

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene has announced a one-year postponement to the previously announced New York-premiere staging of Barry Manilow's musical Harmony. Originally scheduled to begin its run at the Museum of Jewish Heritage on February 11, 2020, the production will now start up on February 9, 2021.

A press representative for the production attributed the delay to a recent bout of appendicitis that affected director/choreographer Warren Carlyle; the Tony winner and upcoming Music Man choreographer has since been successfully treated but his illness delayed the production process, resulting in Harmony being moved back. "Barry and Bruce have created an extraordinary show and I am so thankful that the team has been able to adjust their schedules for the new dates," said Carlyle. "I wish it could be sooner, but this is a timeless and remarkable story that I promise will be worth the wait."

Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino announced today that due to continued overwhelmingly high demand, GRAMMY, TONY, and EMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter, arranger, producer and musician, Barry Manilow and his MANILOW: LAS VEGAS – The Hits Come Home! has extended his residency at the historic Westgate International Theater through the end of 2020.

Barry Manilow is fresh off his successful Broadway run and headlining at BBC Proms in the Park in London's Hyde Park. That performance drew an unprecedented audience of 40,000; no other headliner has drawn that large a crowd to this treasured outdoor event. He followed that up with twelve sold-out MANILOW: LAS VEGAS – The Hits Come Home! performances at the Westgate Las Vegas in September and October.

This spectacular show is unlike anything Manilow has ever done in his concert tours around the world before with massive video walls, sets, and special effects - a non-stop evening of Manilow's massive catalogue of Top 40 Hits.

"It's an honor to further extend our relationship with Barry as he commits to another year of delighting audiences at Westgate Las Vegas," said Westgate Resorts Founder & CEO David Siegel. "Barry is a timeless entertainer, and tremendous talent and I couldn't be happier to continue to have him call Westgate Las Vegas his home."

Manilow returned to the International Theater at the Westgate Las Vegas in June 2018. He has been named a "Best of Las Vegas" Best Resident Performer/Headliner by the Las Vegas Review Journal in both 2018 and 2019, and the show has received rave reviews from media outlets all across the country. October 26, 2019 Las Vegas Review-Journal"Barry Manilow closes Westgate gala with a flourish" by John Katsilometes
Westgate founder David Siegel sought a surprise superstar to perform at the inaugural “Evening to Save Lives” gala at his Las Vegas hotel on Friday night. He didn’t need to look far. Barry Manilow arrived on the scene, striding under a spotlight, to close the first gala fundraiser for the Victoria Siegel Foundation at Westgate Ballroom.

Manilow, of course, is the resident headliner at the hotel’s International Theater, telling the cheering audience, “I just happened to be in the neighborhood, and I thought I’d drop by.” Manilow sang three songs, the a cappella “One Voice,” followed by “Can’t Smile Without You” and “Copacabana,” ending the night buoyantly for what we call the “posh pit” near the front of the stage.

Remarkably, the event was assembled in less than four months, led by Cami Christensen, Westgate’s president and general manager, and Victoria Siegel Foundation Executive Director Mina Lu, drawing an impressive sellout crowd of 900. The gala pulled in at least $1 million through table sales, a silent and live auction, and individual donations. Siegel has already set Sept. 19, 2020, as the next event. “It’s one of the perks of owning the hotel; I get to set the date,” Siegel said at the post-party at the hotel’s Versailles Sky Villa. “I think we exceeded expectations tonight.” Siegel offset all operation expenses himself, meaning all money raised during the evening was donated to the Siegel Foundation to fight drug abuse, and also to fund Victory Clubs, an initiative that provides services and perks for teenagers across the country who stay clean and sober.

Manilow’s first selection was a nod to the book “Victoria’s Voice,” the inspiration for the event. The book was originally the diary kept by Victoria Siegel, who died at age 18 on June 6, 2015 of an accidental overdose of methadone and sertraline. David and Jackie Siegel have established the foundation in her name to promote the use of naloxone, which halts the effects of an overdose.

Prior to Manilow’s appearance, Scott Stapp of Creed and former “Baz” and Postmodern Jukebox cast member Jaclyn McSpadden, along with the Las Vegas Academy Choir, performed for the sold-out crowd. “I must say that this organizations most emotional and genuine organizations I’ve ever heard of, because it is so full of heart,” Manilow said as a kind of closing statement. “For David and and Jackie to take this horrible experience, and instead of burying their heads in the sand, they turned it into such a positive experience that will save the lives of so many young people. It is downright inspiring.”

Tony winner Warren Carlyle has signed on as director and choreographer of Harmony, a new musical featuring music by Barry Manilow and a book and lyrics by Bruce Sussman, set to make its New York premiere next spring. The previously announced production will begin previews on February 11, 2020 and open on March 4 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage. "I'm thrilled to be directing Harmony and helping bring this show to New York. Rounding out the newly announced Harmony creative team is scenic designer Beowulf Boritt, costume designer Linda Cho, sound designer Dan Moses Schreier and lighting designers Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer.

Harmony tells the true story of the Comedian Harmonists, an ensemble of six talented young men in 1920s Germany who took the world by storm with their signature blend of sophisticated close harmonies and uproarious stage antics, until their inclusion of Jewish singers put them on a collision course with history. Casting will be announced at a later date.
