December 22, 2014 The Desert Sun"Barry Manilow gives inside report on ‘Colbert’" by Bruce Fessier
Barry Manilow doesn’t know the next time he’ll perform for a local audience. Right now, the Palm Springs resident is basking in Thursday’s finale of The Colbert Report. “There were around 100 famous (REALLY) famous people there,” he told me by e-mail this weekend. “I was told that Stephen had chosen only his favorite guests. I couldn’t have been more honored to be included in that stellar group.”

We reported Friday who some of those famous people were. You can see them performing “We’ll Meet Again” here. But hearing Barry describe how it was meticulously planned and executed makes it seem even more special.

“Amazingly, it was very organized,” he said. “Two rehearsals for everyone to know where to enter from and to learn the song. I was surrounded with some of the smartest, brilliant geniuses, all in one room. I was getting a headache from all those smart brains! Just when I thought they couldn’t top themselves, Henry Kissenger walks by! Everyone was feeling starstruck. Leslie Stahl and I were waiting in the audience seats pointing out one more amazing person than the next. I think everyone was doing that.”

The shoot took place in the small Colbert studio. The celebrities were gathered in 10 sections with five people in each section. There also was a “choir,” Barry said, of more famous people. “My section had (New York) Mayor (Bill) deBlasio - great guy - and General (Raymond) Odierno. At one point, the general draped his arm around my shoulders and we sang and swayed! Too much. Both Stephen and Jon Stewart hugged me. I thought that was really great of them since I beat them both that year when I won the Emmy over them! There were no tears. Just joy.”

Barry’s next tour dates are in February when he heads to Omaha, Nebraska for a four-night run through the Midwest. He returns to Milwaukee on Feb. 24 for another four nights on the road.

He still has hopes that his full musical, “Harmony,” will find a home on Broadway. I’ve said the show, which I saw at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, contains some of the best compositions of his career. If you’ve seen the show and feel the same way, you can help “Harmony” get to Broadway. The Ahmanson show has been nominated in several categories for regional awards from BroadwayWorld.com, which asks fans to vote for their favorite productions. Producers and financiers look at these awards. So a vote for “Harmony” at BroadwayWorld.com is a vote to send the World War II history-driven show to Broadway.

December 17, 2014 Broadway World"Barry Manilow Visits Sting at THE LAST SHIP!" by Walter McBride
On the heels of the 16-time Grammy Award winner's sold-out, standing-room-only debut performance on Tuesday night, December 9, Sting's engagement in The Last Ship on Broadway has been extended through January 24, 2015, the musical's producers Jeffrey Seller and Kathryn Schenker announced. Originally scheduled to perform with the cast for five weeks, Sting will now appear for an additional two weeks in the role of Jackie White in The Last Ship at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 W. 52 St.). His friend Barry Manilow just attended the musical and you can check out photos from backstage below!

THE LAST SHIP is a new musical with an original score by 16-time Grammy Award® winner Sting. Inspired by Sting's own childhood experiences, this World Premiere production features direction by two-time Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello (Wicked), a book by Tony Award-winner John Logan (Red) and Pulitzer Prize winner Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal), and choreography by Olivier Award winnerSteven Hoggett (Once).

Throughout Sting's enduring career, he has earned 16 Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, three Oscar nominations, and has sold close to 100 million albums from his combined work with The Police and as a solo artist. He is a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, has appeared in more than 15 films and authored two books, including the New York Times best-selling memoir, Broken Music. His fourteenth solo album, entitled The Last Ship, is inspired by the story of his forthcoming play of the same name and draws upon his memories of the shipbuilding community of Wallsend in the North East of England where he was born and raised. In February 2014, PBS' "Great Performances" premiered "Sting: The Last Ship," featuring Sting performing songs from both his album and Broadway-bound musical captured live at The Public Theater in New York City. The countdown clock is ticking for the 57th Grammy Awards, and the nominees for all 83 categories were released on Friday, many of which have connections to the Coachella Valley. "I just can't believe that the Grammy voters found this album!" Manilow said in an e-mail. "Although it's one of my personal favorites, the album was SO under the radar, I thought it would be ignored. I'm so happy it found its way to the big time! The album is filled with some of the wonderful songs of the Great American Songbook written by the some of the great songwriters of all time. (But) Tony Bennett will win. He always does!"

Manilow noted that he has been nominated in each of the past five decades, from the 1970s to the 2010s ... The Grammy Awards will take place on Feb. 8.

December 4, 2014 Digital Spy"Barry Manilow serenades a starstruck Amanda Holden on This Morning" by Naomi Gordon
Legendary crooner Barry Manilow took a shine to a swooning Amanda Holden on This Morning today (December 4).

Holden was unable to hide her excitement at meeting guest Manilow - as co-host Phillip Schofield took a backseat.

She enthused: "This is so exciting for me, I might not be able to speak very well."

Manilow replied: "Oh Amanda... well you either hate me or love me!"

"I adore you," Holden gushed.

Their flirtation and live love-in continued as Manilow inquired: "Do people call you Mandy, or is it Amanda?"

"They call me Mandy," Holden replied with a whisper, while vigorously nodding her head.

"Oh Mandy, well you came and you gave without taking," Manilow began to sing.

That was invitation enough for Holden to leap up and place herself right next to him, during which he turned to face her and continued to perform his serenade. Before long, Holden was joining in too.

"I never get sick of singing that one," Manilow revealed. "It gets more emotional for me as the years go by because I was so young and I didn't know what was about to happen to me."

Overjoyed, Holden said: "You don't know what that means to me! I feel like crying."

After their emotionally-charged moment, Manilow began to chat about his new duet album, saying: "I thought, 'How can I make my duets album different?', so I came up with this crazy idea about making duets out of these records that I'd always loved by these legends."

On his dream duet choice, he added: "It would be with Bruno Mars. He's the real deal... he would be my first phone call. And Lady Gaga. I think I was her first fan - I think I discovered her really early on and I cheer her."

Manilow also performed two songs on the show - 'Bring on Tomorrow' and his classic 'Can't Smile Without You'.

November 27, 2014 Akron Beacon Journal"Barry Manilow will bring his One Last Time! tour to the Wolstein Center" by Malcolm X Abram
Barry Manilow - he is music and he writes the songs - will bring his One Last Time! tour to the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University on Feb. 26. The 71-year-old singing piano man has reduced his touring significantly in recent years, preferring to let fans come to him during his successful Las Vegas run of more than 400 concerts from 2005 to 2011. Manilow recently did a smaller tour highlighting his piano work and voice, but for the One Last Time! tour, he’ll be augmented with a full band of 13 musicians and singers.

He has called the tour a final thank you to all the fans who supported him over the decades and for all intents and purposes the Wolstein show will be his last in Cleveland unless the Copacabana singer pulls a Cher and extends the “final” tour for three years. Tickets for Barry Manilow’s One Last Time! tour are $19.75-$129.75 and are on sale now at the Wolstein Center Box Office, by phone at 877-468-4946 or online at www.wolsteincenter.com.

November 19, 2014 Journal Sentinel"Barry Manilow bringing 'One Last Time!' tour to the BMO Harris Bradley Center Feb. 24" by Piet Levy
Barry Manilow is embarking on what will allegedly be his final tour, including a stop at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee Feb. 24. The BMO Harris Bradley Center is transforming into the Copacabana Feb. 24 when Barry Manilow — the man behind enduring adult contemporary hits like "Mandy," "Can't Smile Without You" and others — headlines the Milwaukee venue for what's being billed as the "One Last Time!" tour.

In terms of capacity, it's a step up from Manilow's last show in town in 2012 at the 4,000-seat Milwaukee Theatre. But the booking is indicative of an ongoing arena strategy president and CEO Steve Costello spoke to the Journal Sentinel about in May, to book more concerts with curtained-off sections that accommodate 5,000 to 8,000 people. And with the 71-year-old Manilow suggesting his upcoming tour will be his last, the turnout could be even greater.

Since that Milwaukee Theatre show, Manilow has released two albums, both this year: "Night Songs" and last month's "My Dream Duets." Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $16.75 to $126.75, and are available for purchase beginning at 10 a.m. Monday at the box office, by calling (800) 745-3000 or visiting ticketmaster.com.

The tour includes an April 11 date at San Diego's Valley View Casino Center, formerly the San Diego Sports Arena.

Between 2005 and 2011, Manilow, now 71, performed more than 400 concerts at the Las Vegas Hilton and Paris Las Vegas. His upcoming arena tour is, he said in a Wednesday press release, “my way of thanking everyone for their years of support…one last time!”

Manilow, a former jazz pianist who got his start as Bette Midler's musical director, scored his first hit in 1975 with Mandy. He has since sold 80 million albums worldwide and scored more than 50 top 40 hits. His new album, "My Dream Duets," teams him with a slew of deceased vocal stars, including Louis Armstrong, Judy Garland, Whitney Houston, Marilyn Monroe, Andy Williams and Dusty Springfield.

Tickets for Manilow's ONE LAST TIME TOUR go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. for his Valley View Casino concert at the venue box office, online at axs.com. [Tickets] for his San Diego concert are priced at $19.75-$129.75, each. A slew of pre-sales begins Friday at 10 a.m. VIP packages are also available.

The top Adult Contemporary chart artist of all time has announced the routing for his “One Last Time!” trek across North America. During the past four decades Manilow has released nearly 30 studio albums along with four live LPs and 15 compilations. His latest album, My Dream Duets, just came out in October. In 2002 Manilow was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. Manilow says the One Last Time!
