Highlights: Barry opened with "Could It Be Magic" and described how that song evolved from a 'Knock Three Times' pop arrangement into the beautiful Chopin Prelude ballad that we all know and love today. Barry talked about being born to be a musician but also growing up in an environment where security was more important than taking chances. He also performed "A Little Travelling Music, Please," "Copacabana," "Turn The Radio Up," "When October Goes," and bits of "It's A Miracle," "Mandy," "Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again" and a couple of commercial jingles (State Farm, Stuck on Band-Aid), while providing background information about the songs.

The Barry Manilow Story

Tony Hadley presented a five-part programme on
living legend Barry Manilow.

"Radio 2 looks at the life and music of legendary performer Barry Manilow in a new series. The passion he arouses in his mainly female audience is well-known, yet, if his name is mentioned in rock circles, there is almost a chill in the air. Manilow is huge and squeaky clean: the antithesis of what a cult rock act should be. But he is an enduring artist who can still pack out the stadiums."
