The legendary Barry Manilow presents, “They Write the Songs - The Broadway Edition.” In this series, Barry will be discovering some of the fantastic songs that have been buried in musical theater history, telling the fascinating stories behind them.

Episode 2: This week Barry introduces three shows, 'The Happy Time', 'House of Flowers' and 'Coco'. All of them featured the biggest stars of their day including Robert Goulet, Dianne Carroll, Pearl Bailey and believe it or not - Katherine Hepburn. The shows were written by some of the best in the business too, John Kander and Fred Ebb (The Happy Time); Alan Jay Lerner and Andre Previn (Coco) and Harold Arlen - the genius who wrote 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' and Truman Capote. Yep. Truman Capote, who famously the wrote 'In Cold Blood' (House of Flowers) ... How could all of these shows be forgotten? Join Barry to hear why they should not!

ABOUT THE SHOW:

"They Write The Songs" is a 10-part documentary series on BBC Radio 2 in which Barry Manilow looks at the life and work of popular composers.The ten programs will feature 80 songs from 39 forgotten musicals. They also feature rarely-heard recordings from familiar voices including Kathryn Hepburn, Ray Bolger, Danny Kaye and Liza Minelli and some specially recorded illustrations recorded at the piano by Barry in his home studio.
